Stress on the Skin & Body

Date: 01/11/2017

Author: Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics)

At some point all of us have experienced waking up, dragging ourselves to the bathroom, looking in the mirror and thinking – oh no! Breakouts, allergic reactions, puffiness, redness, sensitivity, eczema, flaking... all of these conditions have one thing in common: STRESS.

Stress inflicts a multitude of (mostly) negative effects on the body and skin. This is a subject that I could talk about for hours but for the purposes of this newsletter (which we like to keep short, sweet and meaningful) let’s focus on how we at Pure Aesthetics can assist.

Summer Skin Shape Up

Date: 01/10/2017

Author: Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics)

As we escape the grip of cold and enter our warmer months, it is only natural that we will be inclined to be shedding our winter wardrobes and heading outdoors (well some of us).

Our skin too will feel these changes taking place and may feel like it needs a boost to see it through these external changes.

Why Commitment is the Essential Ingredient to Beautiful Skin

Date: 26/09/2017

Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics) - Published in A2 Magazine Issue 23

The skin is the biggest and most complex organ of the body, forming a barrier on the periphery to protect all that lies beneath it. This makes it the first line of defence when under attack from external influences.

The face and hands are especially vunerable to these influences, as they are exposed the most: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. So with this in mind, it is vital to follow a skin care routine (particularly facial skin care) that is not only effective and easy to maintain, but also stimulates and feeds the skin as well.

Relieving Eczema

Date: 01/09/2017

Author: Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics)

Too often we see Eczema symptoms being treated, rather than getting to the root cause. Unfortunately there are many differing opinions of how Eczema develops and the treatment thereof. We do however know a few facts through ongoing Eczema research:

  • Eczema develops more in childhood than adulthood
  • There is a direct link between Eczema & Asthma and/or hay fever
  • Eczema is exacerbated by stress
  • Eczema is negatively affected by poor nutrition
  • Skins inflicted with Eczema have NO barrier and are therefore unable to defend themselves from the negative external influences

Put some Spring Back Into Your Skin

Date: 01/08/2017

Author: Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics)

The end of winter always has some excitement around it as we think of shedding heavy winter wardrobes and soaking up some spring air.

This is also a time that we notice and are more critical of the effect winter has had on our skins and in particular, our faces. This is the perfect time to assess the damage and make some time to correct this.

Just like those gym memberships start to increase as everyone looks to get summer body ready, so we need to get our skin in shape and put some “spring” back into it!

Seasons and Routines

Date: 01/07/2017

Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics) - Published in A2 Magazine Issue 22

Ingrid Katz relays the importance of adapting your skin routine for the cold winter climate.

As winter sets in, we start to feel the effects on our skin. Areas like Johannesburg have a harsh climate, so to endure a winter is quite an experience. Just like we change over to our winter wardrobe, so should we assess our skin care needs according to our environment. This ensures that our skin will cope with the harsher and drier climate. The outside influences of extra heating, fireplaces being lit up, less humidity and less warmth, all play a role in our skin needing a little more TLC.
