Skin Brightening

Worldwide, we see human beings in a splendour of different colours: dark, freckly or light skins with grey, auburn, blond or brunette hair. And then there are the multitude of eye colours too. It is incredible when we realise that most of these colours are thanks to an ability our body has, to produce pigment. We call this pigment melanin and we call the cell that produces melanin, a melanocyte.

As human beings – regardless of colour, we are all born with a very similar amount of melanocytes. However, it is the amount of melanin that is produced that determines our skin colour. A person who is unable to produce pigment is called an albino.

Get your Skin Back on Track

I love holidays! I love leaving the hamster wheel for a bit to relax and recharge the mind, body and soul. I also love coming home after the holidays, feeling refreshed and ready to take on life. This is when I do a little clean out of my skin care & make-up shelf.

I am all for simplifying the visual of my bathroom counter and so anything expired gets binned and any make-up not used within the past year gets the boot.

Fuel From Within

Date: 30/09/2015

We know that you need “fuel in the tank” in order for your motor car to move. You also need to check your water and oil occasionally to ensure the vehicle operates optimally. Added to this, an annual service is required to ensure longevity of that vehicle. Our bodies require just as much care.

We know we should eat 3 balanced meals a day, drink approximately 8 glasses of water, get 8 hrs of sleep and exercise for at least 30 minutes a day – in order for our bodies to function optimally. You get a gold star if you are one of the very few that is able to manage all of the above on a daily basis.

A2 Aesthetic & Anti-Ageing Magazine | issue 15

Skin ageing. How much can we control...and how much is pure genetics? Ingrid Katz deliberates...

Our skin is the biggest organ in our body. Since it sits on the periphery, it’s our first form of defence from any external (outside) influence, while being the first step of our immune system. It is also the last to receive nutrition from within, with our major organs taking the majority of nutrient value that is ingested, and then sending what is not used to the outer layers and skin. Having clarified the above, you can imagine how much work the skin does with minimal support – especially when our bodies are not in optimal condition.

Event: Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School Sports Award

Good morning ladies, staff and guests, I feel very privileged to be able to speak to you all here today as you celebrate your sporting achievements at this incredible establishment, that is GHS.

I spent 5 irreplaceable years toiling on the sports fields and in the classrooms of this school and I wouldn’t change them for anything. In fact, I often feel like I could go back tomorrow....but alas, real life takes over when you leave these halls and for me it has been almost 20 years.

Maintaining a youthful bust & décolleté

Date: 29/09/2015

Author: Ingrid Katz (Pure Aesthetics)

As we are fortunate enough to work alongside a plastic & reconstructive surgeon, the bust and décolleté areas are often under much discussion. This beautiful area of a woman’s body is often considered the epitome of femininity and is much celebrated and adorned. But like a woman’s hands, the décolleté can give away our age.

Advances in surgery as well as aesthetics means we have a few options (some surgical and some non-surgical) of treating these areas. A question that we, at Pure Aesthetics, are faced with daily is one around how to improve the appearance of the skin on the bust and décolleté areas.

New Treatment: The Dermapen

Date: 03/08/2015

Skin needling continues to be (for some) a controversial subject. I, for one, have had concerns about needle depths into the skin and how these needles are placed into or onto the skin, at what pressure and most importantly for what skin concerns needling is indicated.

We know that skin needling induces a “wound healing response” and it is this response that sets off a hive of activity within the skin, including the stimulation of collagen production. This, combined with a topical active serum during treatment, will improve a host of various skin conditions, such as:
