The Sleep Factor

Research shows that poor sleepers are perceived to be 4 years older than they actually are!

Chronic sleep deprivation, which is defined as getting less than 6 hours a night, has been linked to obesity, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, lowered immunity, neurological problems and yes... looking older and most likely feeling it too!

Our time spent snuggled up is when our cells divide and repair and growth hormones are released – for each and every part of our bodies. 8 hours just doesn't seem enough when you think of all the organs, tissue, bone, muscle and cells we have.

Research done in the US found that a lack of sleep doesn't just make you look a little rough over time, it can drastically accelerate the signs of skin ageing, increase fine lines, uneven skin tone / pigmentation, slacken skin and reduce elasticity. Skin-barrier function was also noticed as being impaired, which means an increase in the loss of moisture and a higher risk of sun damage.

Advancements in technology and skincare today has addressed this gap and this is why we see so many "repair", "regenerate", "rejuvenate" and "recovery" taglines on night time skincare products. These products are looking to encourage older skin to behave like younger skin while we rest, thereby decreasing and repairing the damage done during the daylight hours when we're exposed to sun, air-conditioning, make-up and our stressful daytime activities. At Pure Aesthetics, we trust Night Repair Collagen by QMS Medicosmetics and Rejuvenating Revitalizer by Optiphi to get this job done.

As we approach the silly season, our advice to you, is to ensure your sleep cycle is in a good rhythm, that you have a regenerating night time skincare regime (and are religious about doing it!) and lastly that you have a monthly facial treatment to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
